Q. Does frequent dry-cleaning shorten the life of a garment?

A. On the contrary, frequent cleaning prolongs the life of a garment. Not only do stains set with age, making the garment un-wearable, but ground-in-dirt and soil act as an abrasive, like sandpaper, causing rapid wear of fibers.

Q. Does dry-cleaning shrink clothes?

A. No, the dry-cleaning solvents do not penetrate fabric, hence, shrinking, color loss and fabric distortion will not occur. Improper preshrinking by the manufacturer usually causes excessive shrinkage.
Burberry has actually changed some of their care tags to read dry clean only with "Green Earth".

Q. What is an invisible stain?

A. Many stains that are caused by food, oily substances, or beverages may become invisible when they dry out. But, later on, with exposure to heat they will reappear (a step in the dry-cleaning process). This is caused by the oxidation of the sugar in the staining substance. To increase the chances of removing the stain, it is recommended that you immediately mark the spot where the spill occurred with a piece of tape to make the dry-cleaner aware of the invisible stain, on a piece of paper write what was spilled, and bring it to be cleaned immediately.

Q. What if after dry-cleaning the stain remains?

A. Contrary to popular belief, certain stains cannot be removed by the dry-cleaning process. The nature and age of the stain, plus the color and construction of the fabric, sometimes make stains impossible to remove without damaging the fabric. To increase the chances of removing the stain, it is recommended that you immediately mark the spot where the spill occurred with a piece of tape to make the dry-cleaner aware of the invisible stain, on a piece of paper write what was spilled, and bring it to be cleaned immediately.

Q. How do you handle the care of items since we are not present to tell what type of service we want ?

We face a very difficult problem in that we only charge a very small amount of money to clean and can pay out large sums of money that is almost impossible to recoup due to clothing that we can be held responsible for in the cleaning process. This is another of our customer service areas that works good for our clients and bad for us. Such as we never stand behind the laws governing cleaners that states we are only responsible for pennies on the dollar. If we damage something we just replace it with a new item with no questions asked.

As such our cleaning decisions are based solely on protecting the garment in every way possible, color, finish, buttons, etc.

We dry clean shirts that appear able to laundry for a variety of reasons such as: silk, black colored- the pigment does not hold up to the commercial laundry process, care tags that say P within a circle, care tags stating dry clean for best results, etc. as well as shirts that for a variety of reasons have to be hand finished to either protect them or that we cannot fit on our shirt processing machine.

Q. Why are blouses that can be laundered, dry cleaned or charged a dry clean rate ?

This is one of the most heated questions asked of all time ! The answer is simply the blouses in general will not fit on our shirt machines, the ones that do often have darts and pleating that require 100% hand finishing and therefore require a substantial amount of addition time compared to a men's dress shirt. See what our shirt press looks like. The bare minimum size is a man's size 15 1/2 and even at this it barely fits. So unfortunately most blouse require 100% hand finishing.

Q. Who is responsible for damages?

A. The Federal Trade Commissions Care Label Rule covers wearing apparel. Textile garments sold in Canada must have a permanent legible care label. All parts of the garment must be able to withstand the recommended care procedure. The care label is intended to give the dry-cleaner guidance on how to care for the item properly. If a label says "dry-clean," this means that all components including the outer shell, lining, buttons, interfacing fusing material and trim will be color fast and will not be altered during cleaning process. If any such problem occurs, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer, who has not tested the component accurately before labeling. If the problem arises from a manufacturing defect, you should take the article back to the retailer for an adjustment or refund.
